Looks like the low-cost quad-core processors market has changed significantly. Prices went down, new models came out. However, as we have just seen from our new article, there is hardly anything new we could advise you at this point. One of the best choices among low-cost quad-core processors is still the old 65nm Core 2 Quad Q6600. Intel has dropped its price so significantly lately that is remains in the spotlight despite its age and relatively high power consumption. Especially since in some applications such as 3D games, for instance, it manages to perform as fast as a more expensive Core 2 Quad Q9300 thanks to large L2 cache. Its overclocking potential is also pretty encouraging. It doesn’t require a specific mainboard: you can almost always push its frequency 1.5 times up with just an efficient cooler. Core 2 Quad Q9400 @ X-bit labs

When it comes to add-in board vendors, EVGA is probably the most faithful company in the business. Ever since the company launched, Nvidia was the only name EVGA wanted to hear about. But, things are about to change. Here are the facts:
1) EVGA does not want to miss the Core i7 train
2) Nvidia is not making a chipset for Intel Core i7
3) EVGA poached excellent engineering team from now-defunct EPoX and does not want that team to do nothing until MCP8-series show up
Well, those facts end with a really simple result. EVGA is preparing to launch its first non-Nvidia based motherboard, but it will still have Nvidia chips on it. You’ve guessed it right – X58+nForce 200 bridges for full Triple-SLI capability.

Believe it or not Gigabyte lists 18 models of motherboard that are built around the Intel P45 chipset. Add the G45, P43, G43 and X48 chipsets into the equation and the total number of current Core 2 models rises to 29 which is confusing to say the least, so it’s worth taking a moment to see exactly where the GA-EP45-DS3P fits into Gigabyte’s product range. Every P45 model has a model code that starts GA-EP45 so it’s the suffix that we’re interested in, which in this case is DS3P. This is an Ultra Durable 2 motherboard so the area around the CPU socket is typically neat and tidy and that won’t change with the transition to Ultra Durable 3 as the chokes, capacitors and MOSFETs look the same. The cooling system is slightly more extensive than we would expect for a DS3 model with a heatpipe linking the passive cooler on the power regulation hardware behind the IO panel and the cooler on the Northbridge. The tiny cooler on the hardware at the top of the board and the similarly small Southbridge cooler aren’t connected and have to rely on the airflow inside the case to keep them cool. Ako imate priliku ga mjenjati, svakako to učinite. Dakle, shvatili smo koji su pravi modeli za kupiti ako ciljate na niske temperature, iako neće biti svima lako dati 300 ili čak 500 kn za jedan cooler).
