As a daily user of Google’s GMail, I noticed few moments ago nice new icon in the new e-mail toolbar - the smileys. Despite the fact that old school smileys have certain charm, these new animated ones look very cute and I am very happy to see plenty of different ones with funny animation. For those who find animated smileys too distracting, the Googlers added second tab which uncovers classic, round static smileys. All in all, nice feature that I will use alot, I already know. Now, off to composing new e-mails with lots o’ smileys

Ten years ago, Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin incorporated their tiny company. The reason? So they could cash a $100,000 personal check that had been sitting in Page’s desk drawer for a couple of weeks.As Stanford graduate students, Page and Brin had been working together on a search engine they called “BackRub” since early 1996. By 1998, with the encouragement of Yahoo co-founder David Filo, they decided to start a company, and went looking for investors to back them.

Google je pokrenuo svoju verziju projekta za socijalno umrežavanje sličnog Second Lifeu. Pod nazivom Lively by Google, projekt omogućuje korisnicima da u virtualnom trodimenzionalnom svijetu kreiranju vlastite likove i prostore, te komuniciraju s drugim “stanovnicima” i posjetiteljima. Osnovna razlika u odnosu na Second Life i druge slične projekte je što je Livelyu daleko više integriran s Internetom i može mu se pristupiti putem preglednika Interneta.
