Review [ENG]: G.Skill FS-25S2-64GB 2.5″ Solid State Disk Drive

Darco | October 24, 2008

Let’s knock the OEM / ODM thing out first. There are several companies that are selling the Samsung drive, including Samsung. This is common in the computer hardware world and easy to sort out for the end user and hardware reviewer. Basically, what the end user will want to do is, if the product is deserving, purchase the one that has the lowest cost and the longest warranty. Luckily the G.Skill variant has the lowest cost when compared to the Samsung and OCZ drives and by a large amount. When it comes to performance the G.Skill SLC based drive is the benchmark in which all others should be compared. The drive is fast in all of our benchmarks, a task that is not exactly easy to do, as we proved in the Crucial SLC review. It isn’t going to matter if you are running a large database or installing this drive in your notebook, the drive is simply fast and everything you run off of it will benefit from faster load times and overall “snappiness”.  G.Skill FS-25S2-64GB SSD @ Tweaktown

Review [ENG]: Microsoft SideWinder X5 Mouse

Darco | October 24, 2008

The SideWinder X5 Mouse is a decent gaming mouse. For very close to the same money you can get much more sensitive mice. However, the macro recording capability is nice and the mouse works very well. Gamers looking for an alternative to Logitech or Razer may find the SideWinder X5 Mouse appealing. Microsoft SideWinder X5 @ I4U News

Review [ENG]: Comparative Tests of Inexpensive Quad-Core Processors

Darco | October 24, 2008

Looks like the low-cost quad-core processors market has changed significantly. Prices went down, new models came out. However, as we have just seen from our new article, there is hardly anything new we could advise you at this point. One of the best choices among low-cost quad-core processors is still the old 65nm Core 2 Quad Q6600. Intel has dropped its price so significantly lately that is remains in the spotlight despite its age and relatively high power consumption. Especially since in some applications such as 3D games, for instance, it manages to perform as fast as a more expensive Core 2 Quad Q9300 thanks to large L2 cache. Its overclocking potential is also pretty encouraging. It doesn’t require a specific mainboard: you can almost always push its frequency 1.5 times up with just an efficient cooler. Review [ENG]: AMD Phenom X4 9950 in real-life

Darco | October 24, 2008

The conclusion on the AMD Phenom X4 9950 comes to us after the test is not really easy, because it shows on the one hand, fairly good results, but the handling of the processor is not always easy.  Probably the biggest problem is the compatibility above all in relation to motherboards since. Here are numerous problems, so before you buy should investigate thoroughly. With a little luck we immediately caught the correct constellation of CPU, motherboard and memory that can be easily operate it. In our tests showed the whole, however, not so simple. It seems particularly with respect to the motherboard support appropriate that one from the start after a Phenom 9950 with 125-watt TDP identifier. AMD Phenom X4 9950 @ HT4U.net

Review [ENG]: nVidia GeForce GTX260 with 216 Shader

Darco | October 24, 2008

One can’t criticise much witch the nVidias revised GTX 260. The card on average works four to six percent faster then it’s predecessor and in pretty much the half the card is faster then AMD/ATIs Radeon HD 4870. Also the cooling solution isn’t to noisy. Overall the card gives you a lot of gaming performance and you can play games at high resolutions even with activated filtering options. The only problem is that with AMD/ATIs Radeon HD 4870 you get more frames per second for your money. On average the GTX 260 Core 216 is about CHF 50.- more expensive then it’s strongest rival. nVidia GeForce GTX260 @ OCaholic.ch (de)
