Review [ENG]: Logitech V550 Nano cordless laser mouse
Darco | September 20, 2008Design and installation
Although this mouse is targeted for notebook users, it’s size ain’t all that small and the mouse itself will fit beautifully in your palm. It’s smooth silver surface is accompanied with blue stripe that goes all round the mouse and makes it even more attractive. Logitech logo is placed on the silver plate in the lower right part of the top cover. Mouse has two classic buttons plus micro-gear wheel that has tilt feature. Just a few millimeters below the wheel lies the third button, which, by default gives you the scrolling feature.
Turning V550 Nano on it’s back uncovers 848 nm laser technology, mechanism for clipping and three rubber feet that give you nice and smooth tracking feel. There you will also find power button and green LED, that gives you information on the power status of the battery. The capacity of the battery is showed on the top cover of the mouse, through small round LE diode that can glow green or red.
The compartment for batteries and nano receiver can be found after clicking on the button on the the backside of the mouse. Once the receiver is inside, the mouse turns off automatically (same goes for placing it on it’s clip).
The V550 isn’t as contoured as last year’s VX Nano, but the general feel after using it for few hours is most positive. On the picture you can see Logitech MX-518 and VX 550 Nano, side to side.
Logitech doesn’t include software for this mouse, but encourages you to visit their website and download free software, should you feel the need of customizing buttons to your needs. The mouse was recognized and working fine in Windows XP SP3 withing seconds after pluging in the nano receiver without any special driver needed.
A word about V500 Nano clip
As already mentioned, Logitech includes a small metal case with two Clip-and-Go docks that allows you to easily carry the mouse with your laptop or tablet PC as you go from one place to another. The 3M tape seems to hold firmly to the notebook and Logitech expects it will stay in that shape even after 1000 clipping and unclipping. Should you wish to remove it, Logitech included convenient removal tool and there should be no markings left once you remove it - even if you’ve used it on glossy laptop case.
